SKA PARADE CELEBRATES 30 YEARS of SKA and ACCOMPLISHMENT

December 19, 2019 | By Jimmy Alvarez

For decades Orange County has been a Mecca for ALT Rock and Ska. It’s been a welcoming home for local bands and artists from  coast-to-coast and around the World that love to visit the Southland. As we all know, sometimes it takes a Village to make a home. For the OC Ska community, there are so many players that keep the scene alive and thriving. As the Music Fates would have it; from time-to-time, we get to celebrate in milestones. This year Ska Parade celebrates its 30th anniversary of accomplishment and providing us with decades of soulful TwoTone and Ska-Punk glory!

Founder Tazy Phyllipz has led Ska Parade since they roamed the hall ways at the University of California, Irvine to Dirty Radio where it now broadcasts. With all the insanity happening these days in the world of Radio, this anniversary serves as notice as to why OC remains the place for music.

What would an anniversary like this be without a celebration? Being no stranger to putting on the coolest shows on the planet, Phyllipz just announced the Ska Parade 30th Anniversary tour. SP30 hits the road in early 2020 [January 17th through February 1st] taking Ska Parade and a cast of great ska bands throughout the west coast, which culminates in a local showcase at Chain Reaction in Anaheim on January 24, 2020. These bands have provided us an electric and hypnotic pulse for decades, and their sonic vision leaves nothing to the imagination. Bands to perform include Los Kung Fu Monkeys, Monkey, Joker’s Republic, The Holophonics and local favorites Hooray For Our Side.

If this isn’t enough, in between sets the crowd will be treated to clips on a big screen, just like seeing a home movie. The clips are from the highly acclaimed and award-winning documentary “Pick It Up –  Ska in the 90’s. The documentary is narrated by the iconic voice of Tim Armstrong of Rancid.

If you want to experience the excitement and explosive nature of this genre, check out SP30 when it comes to your neck of the woods.
